Forestone is a new composite clarinet reed developed in Japan that has the functional properties of cane but is consistent, does not degrade with use, and is not subject to temperature, humidity and altitude changes, and other factors beyond the player’s control.
The issue facing developers of composite reeds is sound quality and response (how the reed feels to the player). Before Forestone, the consensus among players was that composite reeds fell short on both counts. We believe this was due to two factors: material and fabrication method.
The chosen material needs to vibrate properly and possess a clear and strong timbre. And in order to vibrate properly, the finished reed needs a smooth vamp (composite reeds that are milled do not have smooth vamps).
Forestone has taken a fresh and innovative approach.
We have developed a special material that contains a percentage of bamboo, for a more realistic cane look, sound, response and feel. We have also developed a proprietary injection-molding process that creates a perfectly smooth, gradually sloping vamp, with no bumps, ridges or other minute imperfections that can negatively affect the reed’s vibration pattern.
All clarinet players are invited to try Forestone reeds: those who never tried composite reeds as well as those who have been dissatisfied with composite reeds of the past. From the moment you first try a Forestone reed, you will surprised how well it plays.
We thank you for your interest in Forestone and look forward to serving you.
