Forestone reeds for Soprano Saxophone come in nine strengths: F1, F1½, F2, F2½, F3, F3½, F4, F4½, and F5.

The Forestone reed strengths are designated with a number preceded by the letter “F” for FORESTONE. The nine strengths in our range are more or less equivalent to cane reeds from the major manufacturers.

However, because arundo donax (cane) is a highly variable natural material while the proprietary material used to produce Forestone reeds is not, and because there is no scientific basis upon which all players can agree on such terms as “harder” or “softer,” the only real way to determine which strength of Forestone reeds works best for a particular player is to try them.
